Grand slam for Polish winners

Kwiecien and Starkowski worthy Senior Pairs champions

The winners scored an enormous series of tops, to lead the rest of the field by 5%! An appropriate way to describe their win would be a grand slam, I think:

Only one more pair (only one!) reached a grand, let alone 7NT. Does it surprise you to hear that this other pair also was from Poland?

Looking through the various auctions, it struck me that only half the auctions started the classic way 1heart icon – 2diamond icon – 3diamond icon. In Polish Club, however, West’s 2heart icon rebid posed no problems later on… So Kwiecien and Starkowski also won the third and final session of the Seniors pairs to become very, very worthy champions indeed!
